In 2010 the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition decided to make changes to the English educational system.

The changes raised the cap on the maximum limit universities could charge for courses and made cuts to funding for those heading for higher education.

Largely led by students, the protests saw widescale acts of damage and violence across the London and in other parts of the country.
